Update #30 Sale could complete next week.
The St Christopher’s school site is likely to be sold
to a residential developer.
A deal could be signed next week.
As soon as it’s all confirmed, we will let you know.
Rest assured, SCAN will make sure that the new owners are fully aware of the community’s hopes, priorities and concerns.
Over the last five years, you have told us what matters to you and your families: traffic, road safety, site access, ecology, wildlife, affordability, height/massing of any new buildings, overdevelopment and of course, St Christopher’s legacy of SEND provision.
We have always made these concerns clear to anybody who has expressed interest in the site during this bidding process. And we’ll continue to do so with the new owners.
We sincerely hope their plans will be sympathetic to our environment and to our existing residents. Once again we are calling for any scheme to be low rise, low density, & low impact and to bring genuine benefit to all our lives.
What’s different this time is that any development must take into account the Asset of Community Value status, which SCAN and other groups fought so hard for. This means the new scheme will have to provide a ‘social well-being benefit’ to the community. This could be a green space for the local primary school or a unit/respite facility for learning disabled children or adults.
We all want to avoid repeating the disasters of the past, so SCAN looks forward to a fair and transparent consultation process, which can ensure that this beautiful site is developed in a way that reflects its history, conservation status and this very special neighbourhood.
